Movie Fans, I Need Your Help

If you're willing

As you know, I watch a lot of movies. (Though nowhere near as many as I used to.)

Since I was 16, I have maintained a list of movies and TV that I should watch. Until 2020, it was an alphabetical list that led to this absurdity where I’ve seen way more movies beginning with the letters A through C. It dawned on me that I would never make it to Z before I died, or even T or M. (Also, more than one friend made this point to me in exasperation after I explained how I chose movies to watch.)

So in 2020 I created a spreadsheet with rankings from IMDB, Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes. Later, I added streaming service information. This has been very helpful and has led to me watching way more classic films than not ever since.

However, I still get recommendations all the time, and because my list is long (there are currently nearly 6300 titles on it), these recommendations do not necessarily make it to the top of my list.

For example, last night a friend recommended a movie to me. I added it to my list with its ratings and discovered that it is 4128th. I will never watch this movie unless something drastically changes in my life.

So it occurred to me to get endorsements from you. Is there a particular film you think I should watch above any other movies? Send me an email or comment.

Or, if you’re really ambitious, take a look at the list and add your votes.

There are 5 columns for recommendations and 5 columns for anti-recommendations (if you really think it’s not worth my time). But your initials, a “Yes,” your first name, whatever you want.

Once you’re done, I’ll quantify the information and add it to my ratings, prioritizing recommended films over those that aren’t. (If you want to put your own persona rating in a cell, out of 5, 10, or 100, please do so. Just make sure it’s clear, i.e. 3/5, 6/10 or 60/100 rather than just “3” or “6” or “60.”)

If you can’t find the movie in the spreadsheet it means one of two things: it is somehow not on my list, or it’s one of the 5000 movies and TV shows I’ve already watched.
